Lilium Species Foundation

New Year Newsletter 2026

As we begin a new year, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who continues to follow and support the work of the Lilium Species Foundation. Although much of our effort takes place quietly and behind the scenes, steady progress is being made, and the long-term vision for LSF continues to move forward.

Over the past year our primary focus has been on strengthening the scientific and conservation foundations of the organization. This has included ongoing work on species documentation, distribution research, conservation status review, and the development of standardized methods for recording field observations, seed provenance, and genetic lineages. Establishing accurate, well-documented baselines is essential if lilies are to be effectively protected in the future, and this careful groundwork is now taking shape.

We have also been working toward the long-term goal of creating a formal seed and pollen conservation program. This future program will be designed to safeguard genetic diversity, support research, and assist with restoration and recovery efforts for rare and threatened species. Building such a system requires careful planning, legal compliance, and scientifically sound protocols, and these elements are now being actively developed.

On the institutional side, LSF continues to refine its mission, conservation priorities, and organizational framework so that it can grow into a fully functioning scientific and conservation foundation. This includes clarifying research goals, conservation ethics, and future governance structures, all with the aim of creating an organization that will remain credible, transparent, and effective for decades to come.

Looking ahead, the coming year will focus on expanding species profiles, strengthening conservation planning, and preparing the groundwork for broader participation through future membership, research collaboration, and seed-based conservation initiatives. While progress may seem gradual, each step is part of building something intended to last: a permanent resource dedicated to the study and preservation of the genus Lilium.

Thank you for your continued interest, encouragement, and patience. Your support makes it possible to keep moving forward with care, accuracy, and a deep respect for the remarkable diversity of lilies and the ecosystems they inhabit.

Wishing you a healthy, peaceful, and productive New Year,

The Lilium Species Foundation
